Andrea Ensign, APRN, LCSW, has been providing mental health services to youth, families and adults in schools, communities, hospitals and emergency rooms in New Mexico for the past 25 years. She is a holistic and trauma-informed psychiatric nurse practitioner who believes strongly in the body’s innate ability to heal itself. In her practice, she combines mindfulness based psychotherapy with a variety of complementary modalities that assist the healing process. These may include medication, mindfulness, breath-work, EMDR, cognitive behavioral strategies, guided imagery, exercise, nutrition and journaling. She tailors her techniques based on the unique needs and interests of the individuals she is working with. She continually seeks to learn about additional modalities through research and training opportunities that serve to enhance the healing process.
Andrea’s passion is in guiding and supporting her clients in self care techniques that help to balance their bodies and minds, thus empowering them to take an active role in their own unique healing journeys on the road to optimal health. These skills can help in reducing the need for traditional medications.
Andrea graduated from Columbia University’s School of Social Work and the University of Illinois’s College of Nursing. She is a licensed clinical social worker in New Mexico and Board Certified as a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner through the ANCC. Andrea has completed the Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction Teachers Course and is a trained MBSR facilitator. She has been trained in EMDR and trauma-based interventions. When Andrea is not in her private practice, she works in an outpatient clinic at the University of New Mexico.
